Infinitely Near featured a number of motifs– inflatables, palm trees, symbols of pleasure and luxury like castles and crowns. These works come together to form a meditation on the privilege in which so many of us live our day-to-day lives without pausing to reflect on its cost. An island in the sun, a suite of ten inflatable palm trees rendered in marble; That accursed white whale, a deflated whale pool toy; and Plans for my kingdom, a series of watercolour drawings on marble, may appear light and humorous, but they provoke more considered reflection. What does it say about our pleasure and luxury that can be so easily deflated?
